Agriculture Agreement to Inventory Forests using Artificial Intelligence (AI Technology)

Minister of Agriculture, Engineer Khaled Al-Hneifat, signed an agreement today at the Ministry’s headquarters with the “Sustainable World for Software Technology” company. The agreement aims to inventory the forest resources in Jordan, determine the types, species, density, and soil characteristics, and link them to climate data.

Al-Hneifat highlighted the importance of this agreement in developing the forestry sector, preserving forest wealth, and expanding the green cover. He added that the Ministry, through the National Sustainable Agriculture Plan and the afforestation pillar, is working on using modern technologies to monitor forests and provide information through direct oversight and satellite observation. He emphasized that this will contribute to expanding the green areas, protecting the forests, and managing them, thus enhancing food security and sustainability.

For her part, Ms. Abrar Al-Otaibi, the General Manager of the “Sustainable World for Software Technology” company, confirmed that the company always strives to achieve sustainable development goals and implement green projects using space technologies and geospatial artificial intelligence. The company will help strengthen the capabilities of the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture and achieve its objectives in forest inventory and sustainable management, supporting efforts to adapt to climate changes, conserve water resources, and promote rural development. She explained that this project will provide carbon credits and help improve the management of environmental resources, thereby supporting global efforts to combat climate change and enhance environmental security.

The forest inventory will also provide real data on the distribution of forests and their health status, which will help in developing effective strategies for environmental protection, sustaining natural resources, preserving biodiversity, supporting the local economy, combating desertification and climate change, and increasing green spaces in line with the sustainable development goals.

This agreement is a significant strategic step for Jordan, enhancing its ability to manage natural resources efficiently and supporting environmental security. By providing accurate and comprehensive data on the state of forests, the Jordanian government will be able to improve environmental conservation strategies and develop appropriate policies to address environmental challenges such as climate change and desertification. Additionally, the project will contribute to expanding green areas and supporting sustainable economic development, thus enhancing Jordan’s ability to achieve sustainable development goals and improving the quality of life for local communities.
